One hundred years ago, our school community began its journey as Girard Elementary—the very first elementary school in Woodland Hills. What started as a single campus serving a growing neighborhood laid the foundation for generations of learning, connection, and pride. While our name and programs have evolved, the heart of our school has remained the same.
Today, as Woodland Hills Elementary Charter for Enriched Studies (WHECES), we continue that legacy by fostering academic growth, nurturing curiosity, and inspiring lifelong learners. For a century, our school has been a place where students are encouraged to discover who they are, who they can become, and how they can positively impact the world around them. We embrace and focus on the arts as a powerful pathway to preparing students to thrive in our region. It is this enduring spirit that we are proud to celebrate together and invite you to celebrate our 100th year with us:
WHECES Centennial Assembly — Friday, February 6th @ 8:30 am | Upper Campus
We will begin the day with a special School Assembly celebrating our 100th school day during our 100th school year—a meaningful milestone in our school’s history. The assembly will feature thoughtfully curated content created by our students and staff, including stories, reflections, and creative presentations that honor our past, celebrate our present, and highlight the values that have remained consistent across generations.
Centennial Carnival — Saturday, February 7th @ 12-5 pm | Lower Campus
Following the assembly, we warmly invite you to join us for our Centennial Carnival. This joyful celebration welcomes the entire school community—current students and families, staff past and present, alumni from all WHECES years, local businesses, and friends of the school. Together, we will celebrate the relationships and shared experiences that have shaped our community over the last 100 years.
